Designed in the 1950s by Isamu Noguchi, the Akari paper lamp series is considered an icon of mid-century design. Handmade for over 50 years by the original manufacturer in Gifu, Japan, each lamp blends Japanese craftsmanship with elegant contemporary design. The lamps are created from handmade Shoji paper and bamboo ribbing, supported by a metal frame. Each lamp is stamped with Noguchi's signature. The Akari lights take one maximum 75W E27/230V bulb (not included).
I love the Aki 23A pendant for its clean, understated silhouette that brings a subtle softness to any space. Its simple, elongated shape makes it a versatile piece that works well in both modern and traditional interiors-think minimalist kitchens, cosy dining areas, or even a relaxed lounge. When styling, consider grouping a few at different heights for maximum impact or hanging it solo over a dining table or island. Pair it with warm, diffused light to enhance its gentle glow, and keep surrounding decor minimal to let the lamp’s quiet charm shine through. It’s a straightforward, stylish choice that adds a touch of understated elegance without overwhelming the space.
