Charming and delicate, the Akari 120. A Pendant Light by Isamu Noguchi for Vitra is a beautiful blurring of the boundaries between great sculpture and organic furniture design. Blending Japanese craftsmanship with elegant contemporary forms, the light is handcrafted by artisans at the traditional, family-run Ozeki workshop in Gifu, Japan using washi paper and steel wire. Each characterful light boasts a stamp of Noguchi's signature as a sign of authenticity. Named 'Akari' after the Japanese name for light, Noguchi's Akari Light Sculptures reflect the Japanese-American's belief that everything is sculpture. Requires: 1x max. 40W E27 230V bulb (not included).
I love the Akari 120A pendant for its clean, minimalist aesthetic that really works across a variety of interiors. Its neutral tone and spherical shape make it versatile-ideal for both contemporary schemes and more relaxed, Scandinavian-inspired spaces. I’d recommend using it in a dining room or over a kitchen island, where its soft diffused light creates an inviting atmosphere. To style it effectively, consider pairing with contrasting textures or colours in the surrounding decor to make it a subtle statement piece without overpowering the space. It’s also worth experimenting with different hanging heights to optimise its impact and ensure it complements other ceiling features or light fixtures.
