Treat yourself to an icon! Danish modernist architect of worldwide renown, Arne Jacobsen designed the AJ lamp in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, in 1957. Not only did Arne Jacobsen design the hotel down to the very last detail for airline SAS, he also designed almost all of the hotel's furnishings, lighting and accessories. The AJ lamp is one of Arne Jacobsen's best-known creations. The AJ series is now considered to be the model which put the Danish architect's name on the global scene. Originally, the product family included a floor lamp, a wall light, and a table lamp. The wall light was also arranged in rows in the hotel's entrance hall, creating a beautiful lighting with an elegant touch. Over the years, the colour palette has been expanded. The new 2023 chromatic range is inspired by the watercolours that Arne Jacobsen painted throughout his life of his garden, the landscape around his summer home, or his travels in France and Italy. The AJ lamp has an iconic, graphic expression which wonderfully illustrates Jacobsen's style. The profile of he AJ lamp, with its straight lines and combined oblique and straight angles, is a bold reference to the profile of the 3300 range's armchairs, as well as to the geometric lines of the architect's buildings. The lighting is perfect. The light gives of a downward-directed light. The angle of the lampshade can be adjusted to optimise the lighting. The interior of the lampshade is painted white to create a softer and more comfortable light. A true icon of Scandinavian design, the AJ lamp combines pure, timeless design with excellent lighting qualities. The lamp's timeless design makes it perfect for any interior.
This AJ Wall light with plug offers a sleek, functional addition that works well across both contemporary and mid-century inspired interiors. I love how its adjustable arm provides flexibility, making it ideal for task lighting or highlighting specific areas, like side tables or reading nooks. The yellow finish adds a subtle pop of colour without overwhelming the space, and its minimalist design lends itself to a variety of schemes - from modern Scandinavian to eclectic. For styling, consider pairing it with neutral walls and natural textures to really let its classic shape stand out, or use multiple units in a hallway or bedroom for an uncluttered, cohesive look. Its retro roots also make it a great feature in vintage or industrial interiors, especially when combined with warm metals and wood accents.
