Arne Jacobsen is a Danish Modernist architect famous around the world. He designed the AJ lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Collection) in 1957. The AJ series is today regarded as the model that made the Danish architect known all around the world. Arne Jacobsen not only designed the hotel down to the last detail for the airline SAS, but also designed almost all the hotel’s original furnishings and fittings. The profile of the AJ lamp, with its straight lines and its combination of oblique and straight angles, is an assumed reference to the profile of the 3300 range of armchairs, as well as the geometric lines of the architect's buildings. The AJ lamp was used in several parts of the hotel in a copper and stainless-steel finish. To mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the SAS Royal Hotel, AJ lamps are making a comeback in their original stainless-steel finish, which reflects its surroundings, in the spirit of Arne Jacobsen, and highlights the minimalist shape so characteristic of the lamp, as well as its perfect lighting. The lamp emits light directed downwards. The angle of the lampshade can be changed to optimise the lighting. The interior of the lampshade is painted white to make the light softer and more comfortable. A true icon of Scandinavian design, the AJ lamp combines pure, timeless design with excellent lighting qualities. Its vintage look will cause a sensation! This wall light is equipped with a cable and plug (mains connection). Switch on the wall base.
I love this wall light for its sleek, minimalist design and iconic mid-century appeal, making it a versatile piece that works well in both contemporary and vintage-inspired interiors. Its adjustable arm allows for customisable lighting angles, perfect for task lighting in a home office or reading nook. The grey and silver metal finish gives it a cool, understated elegance that complements neutral palettes, but it can also add a touch of sophistication when paired with darker tones or colourful accent walls. Practical styling tips include placing it beside a bed for functional bedside lighting or in an alcove to highlight architectural details. Its clean lines and adjustable feature make it a reliable yet stylish addition to any wall, whether in a living room, study, or hallway.
