Arne Jacobsen is a Danish Modernist architect famous around the world. He designed the AJ lamp for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Collection) in 1957. The AJ series is today regarded as the model that made the Danish architect known all around the world. Arne Jacobsen not only designed the hotel down to the last detail for the airline SAS, but also designed almost all the hotel’s original furnishings and fittings. The profile of the AJ lamp, with its straight lines and its combination of oblique and straight angles, is an assumed reference to the profile of the 3300 range of armchairs, as well as the geometric lines of the architect's buildings. The AJ lamp was used in several parts of the hotel in a copper and stainless-steel finish. To mark the 60th anniversary of the opening of the SAS Royal Hotel, AJ lamps are making a comeback in their original stainless-steel finish, which reflects its surroundings, in the spirit of Arne Jacobsen, and highlights the minimalist shape so characteristic of the lamp, as well as its perfect lighting. The lamp emits light directed downwards. The angle of the lampshade can be changed to optimise the lighting. The interior of the lampshade is painted white to make the light softer and more comfortable. A true icon of Scandinavian design, the AJ lamp combines pure, timeless design with excellent lighting qualities. Its vintage style will always look sensational!.
I love this lamp for its sleek, functional design that combines timeless Scandinavian elegance with a versatile form. The AJ Table lamp’s orientable head makes it ideal for task lighting, whether for a desk or side table, and its minimalist metal finish adds a contemporary touch. It works well in modern, mid-century, or industrial interiors-particularly when paired with neutral tones or textured fabrics to highlight its polished look. Practical styling tips include placing it on a desk to serve as a dedicated work area or pairing it with ergonomic accessories for an efficient workspace. Its understated sophistication also means it can effortlessly slot into both minimalist and eclectic schemes, adding a subtle statement of design heritage.
