An extraordinary piece of work in material for this Abstract cushion. Handcrafted with the same techniques as those used for carpets, the Abstract is a concentration of know-how. Entirely made in Benares, Northern India, the cushion’s motifs are tufted by hand: New Zealand virgin wool is woven strand by strand in its weft. The abstract motifs come from exaggerated details in the watercolours of the young British artist Josephine Ortega, representing urban landscapes. The abstraction is reinforced by the variations of height and texture in the material, inspired by the hippie wall hangings of the seventies. Very sober, the back of the cushion is a solid beige colour, in a soft, thick fabric, a mix of linen, nylon and virgin wool. The Abstract cushion is filled with high-quality duck feathers. Dense and very soft, it’s the ideal partner for cosy evenings on your sofa. The cushion’s finish is very detailed: the removable cover closes with an elegant copper zip. True to its high-end look, Tom Dixon's Abstract cushion has been designed to last and provide you with the ultimate in comfort.
I love this cushion for its versatility and modern take on abstract design. Its neutral beige tones are easy to pair with both minimalist and more eclectic interiors, making it a reliable choice for adding texture and subtle visual interest. It works particularly well in contemporary and Scandinavian-inspired spaces, where its graphic pattern can stand out without overwhelming the overall aesthetic. For styling, try layering it with other cushions in different textures and muted colours to create a relaxed yet thoughtfully curated look. It’s also a practical piece for adding comfort to sofas or bed spaces, making it both stylish and functional.
