Originally created for Finland's University of Jyväskylä, the brass and white Pendant Light A331 was designed by Alvar Aalto in 1953 and would lend a touch of contemporary style to any home. Nicknamed the 'Beehive' after its distinctive shape, the light is one of Alvar Aalto's most beloved designs thanks to its sculptural appearance that commands attention even when unlit. With a single hand-turned shade crafted from delicate, lacquered white aluminium strips forming concentric circles around the bulb, the shade diffuses an even light. Finished with several rows of perforated brass-plated steel rings, this sophisticated pendant light would enhance any space with its warm diffused light. Alvar Aalto was one of the founding members of Finnish manufacturer, Artek, and embraced strong individuality with focus on designing predominantly for humanity, creating functional and dynamic pieces for public and personal spaces alike.
