Unveiled by Alvar Aalto in 1952, The A201 Pendant Light was initially intended for the Säynätsalo Town Hall library in Finland. The light's sculptural form results from powder-coated steel and brass-plated accents, its 'halo' casting a soft, indirect light over both private and public spaces. Alvar Aalto was one of the founding members of Finnish manufacturer Artek and embraced strong individuality with a focus on designing predominantly for humanity, creating functional and dynamic pieces for all to enjoy. Requires: 1x max. 12W E27 bulb (not included).Care instructions: Use a soft cloth, dampened with water and soap, or mild cleanser if needed for resistant dirt; do not use alcohol or other solvents. Receive a three-bulb Artek Light Tasting Set with every purchase until 31st January 2022; simply add to the basket with your qualifying light to claim a complimentary set.
I love this pendant light because of its sleek, minimalist design that feels both modern and timeless. The white and brass finish makes it versatile, working particularly well in contemporary, Scandi, or even more traditional interiors when you want a touch of subtle sophistication. It’s a great choice over dining tables, kitchen islands, or in a breakfast nook, where its understated elegance won’t overpower the space. For styling tips, pair it with neutrally coloured, clean-lined furniture and simple decor accents to let the fixture be a focal point. Dimming the light can also help create a cosy atmosphere, making it a practical yet striking addition to various settings.
