A pioneer and visionary, renowned designer Philippe Starck has created the first chair designed by artificial intelligence in 2019. To design it, Starck called on generative design software developed by Autodesk, an American company specializing in 3D design software. Why do all chairs look alike? How do you create a structurally different chair? At some point, I needed to open a new Door...'' explains Philippe Starck about the genesis of the A.I chair project. Since then, the A.I. family has grown. The A.I. collection is the fruit of a joint effort between artificial intelligence and human intelligence, defined by Starck himself as ''Natural Intelligence''. Human creative thought and artificial intelligence have thus merged to design furniture that has been totally developed by an algorithm that respects the original requirements: to create, with as little material and energy as possible, solid furniture that conforms to the aesthetic canons of the Kartell collections. The A.I. Console embodies an idea of the elegance of artificial intelligence in search of minimalism, the 0 point of style. It features a contrasting blend of pure forms and organic branching lines. The A.I. Console adds a unique touch to entrances and corridors, thanks to its central Base, legs. The A.I. collection is a symbol of Kartell's experimental approach and dedication, having partnered with the illy group to develop a recycled thermoplastic technopolymer produced from used coffee pods. The material is crushed and granulated to give it a new life, which can then be injected into Kartell's molds to create a designer product. The collaboration with illy embodies a new way of managing the circular economy process between two excellences. It took almost two years of work to achieve the level of quality and mechanics required to make a product from used coffee pods. From elsewhere, a new world is opening up to us. An unlimited world...'' concluded Starck. There's no doubt that the A.I collection marked a turning point for the future of design.
