Description

Precious. The A. I armchair shines with new metallic finishes which enhance the design. The plastic becomes noble and sophisticated, granting a luxurious and glamorous dimension to Kartell best sellers. The future is taking shape at Kartell. Pioneer and visionary, the famous designer, Philippe Starck, continues to innovate: he has created the first chair designed by artificial intelligence. To draw it, Starck used Autodesk, an American company specialised in 3D design software. To design the A. I. (Artificial Intelligence) chair, Philippe Starck, Autodesk and Kartell asked a single yet crucial question of Dreamcatcher (the generative design software developed by Autodesk): "Would you be able to give our bodies a rest by using as little materials and energy as possible? With no culture, memories or influence, the software only responded with intelligence, its "artificial" intelligence. " A. I. Is the first chair designed outside of our brains, outside of our ways of thinking. Human creative thought and artificial intelligence therefore merged to design a chair made completely by an algorithm which meets the original requirements: creating a comfortable, study chair in line with the Kartell collections' aesthetics, with as little material and energy as possible. The A. I. Chair is the result of joint work between artificial and human intelligence, defined by Starck himself as "Natural intelligence". Autodesk stated that the design process with the artificial intelligence software was reminiscent of ""a child learning’’. Starck described this process as very similar to a conversation between two human beings. "Why do chairs all look like each other? How can you create a structurally different chair? At a point, I needed to open a new door. " explained Philippe Starck concerning the creation of the A. I. Chair project. This collaboration between human and artificial intelligence has shown that artificial intelligence can assist the work of a designer by calculating what the optimal responses are to a design idea. The A. I. Chair is a symbol of the experimental approach of design and the ecological involvement of the designer Philippe Starck. "Coming from elsewhere, a new world is now open to us. An unlimited world. " concluded Starck. No doubt the A. I. Chair marks a turning point for the future of design. Mark Davis, Design Futures Director of Autodesk, stated: "Working with Starck and Kartell was really a source of inspiration. The opportunity to understand their design philosophy and their approach to solving problems was invaluable for our team, in the context of our reflection on the future of manufacturing. It is a research collaboration at the height of industrial design, which was able to obtain one of the most creative results that we have tried to achieve with generative design. Thanks to a collaborative relationship with artificial intelligence, humans will see their expertise in terms of design and engineering amplified, which will increase their capacity for innovation and productivity. " Pursuing its technological research, Kartell continues to innovate to select new materials that perform increasingly well and are ever more environmentally friendly. The A. I armchair is made from a 100% recycled thermoplastic technopolymer, coming from industrial waste. With this material, Kartell is making new inroads into environmental sustainability, by using recycled materials, while ridding the environment of waste which is turned back into raw materials, therefore triggering a virtuous cycle of the circular economy.

Our Stylist Says

I love this A.I Stackable armchair for its contemporary edge and innovative use of materials, making it a perfect statement piece in modern or industrial-inspired interiors. Its metallic finish adds a sleek, reflective quality that works well in minimalist schemes, high-tech spaces, or even eclectic dining rooms where a touch of futurism is desired. Practical styling tips include pairing it with understated tables to highlight its sculptural design, or mixing with textured fabrics and softer accessories to temper its metallic sheen. Its stackability makes it versatile for both everyday use and easy storage during entertaining or seasonal updates, making it as functional as it is stylish.
